4th Pirates saga grosses P62.37 million in three days

Johnny Depp is the unscrupulous but freedom-loving Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

4th <em>Pirates </em>saga grosses P62.37 million in three days PRESS STATEMENT FROM WALT DISNEY:

MANILA, May 23 -- Capt. Jack Sparrow found the elusive Fountain of Youth at the Philippine box-office, as Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides opened at No. 1 with a nationwide gross of a swashbuckling P62.37 million for the Friday to Sunday (May 20 to 22) period. That opening figure is 2011's highest to date, overtaking Thor's P59.5 million several weeks back. "This was announced today by Victor R. Cabrera, managing director of Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures International which locally distributed the film.

"The film's three-day haul also managed to become the third biggest opening weekend ever for a Disney title, close on the heels of 2007's Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End (P71.3-million) and 2006's Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (P65.5-million) which both had the advantage of five-day opening weekends.

"Along the way, On Stranger Tides also triumphantly broke the following Disney records: Biggest opening day ever at P18.8-million, beating 2005's The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe at P18.6-million; biggest Friday (P18.8- million), Saturday (P21.4-million) and Sunday (P22-million) receipts ever, surpassing the grosses of 2010's Toy Story 3 on the same days.

"SM Mall of Asia (P5.01-M) posted the highest sales over all cinemas, followed by SM North EDSA (P3.35-M), Trinoma (P3.23-M), SM Cebu (P2.56-M), SM Megamall (P2.48-M), Power Plant (P2.20-M), Glorietta 4 (P2.14-M), Greenbelt 3 (P2.11-M), Eastwood (P1.78-M) and Alabang Town Center (P1.65-M).

"Also reporting robust figures are Newport Cinema (P1.58-M), Gateway (P1.39-M), Shangri-la (P1.34-M), Ayala Cebu (P1.27-M), Greenhiils (P1.10-M), Robinsons Ermita (P1.05-M), SM Baguio (P1.03-M), Robinsons Galleria (P1.02-M), Festival (P1.01-M) and Market Market (P 994,626).

"Starring Johnny Depp in his iconic role of Captain Jack Sparrow, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides captures the fun, adventure and humor that ignited the hit franchise—this time in Disney Digital 3DTM. Crossing paths with the enigmatic Angelica (PenĆ©lope Cruz), Jack Sparrow is not sure if it's love—or if she's a ruthless con artist who's using him to find the fabled Fountain of Youth. When she forces him aboard the "Queen Anne's Revenge," the ship of the legendary pirate Blackbeard (Ian McShane), Jack finds himself on an unexpected adventure in which he doesn't know whom to fear more: Blackbeard or Angelica, with whom he shares a mysterious past.

"Still playing across the Philippines in IMAX 3D, Disney Digital 3D and regular format, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures International through Columbia Pictures."

Scotty McCreery on winning American Idol: "I'll be smiling for a good while now, I promise that."

Country crooner Scotty McCreery received more votes from the public than his fellow finalist Lauren Alaina and became the fourth male contestant in a row to win the FOX talent contest

Scotty McCreery has won American Idol.

The 17-year-old country crooner received more votes from the public than his fellow finalist Lauren Alaina and became the fourth male contestant in a row to win the FOX talent contest last night (May 25, U.S. time).
After his name was called out, he said: "Never in my wildest dreams. I've got to thank the Lord first, though. He got me here."

Over 122 million people voted in the tenth season finale, favoring the baby-faced teen from North Carolina and his distinctly deep vocal style.

Scotty later said he was overjoyed to win the competition and praised the show's judges for being so down-to-earth despite being so famous.

He told MTV News: "They're wonderful. When they first walked out [during the audition], I was intimidated. I was like, 'Oh my goodness, it's Jennifer Lopez, Steven Tyler, and Randy Jackson.' But after a few weeks, they were just like friends to us.

"They were just joking around with us backstage. It's been really great getting to know them. They're really normal people, they really are.

"I'll be smiling for a good while now, I promise that."

The musician also revealed he would like to record a duet with 16-year-old Lauren, whose performance suffered in the finale because of vocal chord damage she suffered during rehearsals.

He said: "Me and Lauren have talked about it for a while. We'll see if that works out. It'd be really cool."

Kim Kardashian is engaged to basketball star Kris Humphries; engagement ring reportedly costs $2 million
Kim Kardashian has become engaged to Kris Humphries.

The 30-year-old beauty—who has been dating the basketball star for six months—went into "shock" when she walked into her Beverly Hills home to see him on one knee holding a 20.5 carat Lorraine Schwartz diamond ring.

She said: "I didn't expect this at all. I was in such shock. I never thought it would happen at home, and I never thought now."
Kris had Kim's mother Kris Jenner on hand to help him pick the ring, and the pair celebrated with all of her family after she said yes.

She added to People magazine: "Kris really didn't want a big celebration, but he had jokingly told my mom he'd be fine if there were mini-horses there.

"Later that night at the party, my mom brought out two mini-horses, covered in glitter, for us. It was hysterical!"

Socialite Kim has previously said she has not been able to find any fault with him since they began dating.

She revealed: "I think I haven't found one thing wrong with him, let's just put it like that."

KIM WANTS HUGE WEDDING. Kim Kardashian wants her wedding to be bigger than the recent royal nuptials.

The reality TV star is keen for her big day to be much more extravagant and spectacular than when Prince William married Catherine Middleton at London's Westminster Abbey on April 29.

A source told America's OK! magazine: "Kim is planning the wedding of the century. She doesn't see why a royal wedding should get more attention that hers. She sees herself as a bigger celebrity than Kate Middleton."

The nuptials are set to be shown on TV for one of her reality TV shows and Kim thinks it will prove more popular than William and Catherine's wedding.

The source added: "Kim thinks it would probably be the biggest TV wedding of all time."

The 30-year-old beauty has reportedly spoken to designer Vera Wang about creating her wedding dress while guests will include Jennifer Lopez, Fergie, Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie, and Kelly Osbourne.

Meanwhile, Kim made sure she told former lover Reggie Bush she was engaged to Kris before he read about it in a magazine.

A source close to the NFL star—who split from Kim last year—told Hollywoodlife.com: "Reggie was told about Kris and Kim's engagement this past weekend because Kim knew everyone would be contacting him for reaction. He was apparently made aware of the People magazine cover as well.

"During their last breakup, Reggie told me Kim may have been the one who got away. He loved her to death."

KIM'S 2M RING. Kim Kardashian's engagement ring reportedly cost $2 million.

The 30-year-old beauty announced her engagement to basketball star Kris Humphries yesterday and it has now been revealed the 20.5 carat Lorraine Schwartz diamond ring set Kris back a huge sum of money.

According to gossip website TMZ, the ring is worth almost half as much as Kim's Beverly Hills mansion and is valued at $2 million.

Maria Shriver to divorce Arnold Schwarzenegger

Maria Shriver—who split from Arnold Schwarzengger after 25 years of marriage after he confessed he had fathered a 14-year-old son with their former housekeeper Mildred 'Patty' Baena—has reportedly told friends she will file papers to legally end their union after deciding she cannot forgive him.

Maria Shriver to divorce Arnold SchwarzeneggerMaria Shriver is set to divorce Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The 55-year-old writer—who split from her husband of 25 years after he confessed he had fathered a 14-year-old son with their former housekeeper Mildred 'Patty' Baena—has reportedly told friends she will file papers to legally end their union after deciding she cannot forgive him. A close friend of Maria's told RadarOnline.com: "Maria absolutely will be filing for divorce.

"It's not a matter of if Maria will file for divorce, but when."

Although she had hired celebrity divorce lawyer Laura Wasser to represent her in her split from the Terminator actor, friends were unsure if she would go ahead with it because of her strong Catholic beliefs.

However, it has since emerged that Maria—who has four children, Katherine, 21, Christina, 19, Patrick, 17, and 13-year-old Christopher, with the former Governor of California—suspected Arnold of having affairs with numerous members of their household staff.

Although she "didn't suspect for one second" that the 63-year-old star had fathered a child with Patty, she reportedly had her suspicions about other workers.

A former employee said: "Maria didn't suspect for one second that Patty was messing about with her husband. But there were others who she wasn't quite so sure about.

"It's perhaps little surprise that after suspicions were aroused, they subsequently didn't last long in employment."

Mariel Rodriguez

Mariel RodriguezBiography

Pleasing personality plus admirable talent equals Mariel Rodriguez, a beautiful young lady who has been very amusing to lots of Filipino viewers here and abroad. With her charming smiles and upbeat voice, she was able to amaze the audience as a host, a vj and an actress as well.

Born August 10, 1984, Maria Erlinda Termulo ( her real name ), has been very succesful in her career in showbiz. Now regarded as one of the most promising tv personalities in the industry, Mariel Rodriguez was able to surpass lot of trials in her personal life and in her work. Her career...

How did she start?

Mariel first captured the interest of the Filipino audience through TV commercials and endoresements of different beauty and health products such as Rexona, Clean and Clear and her most famous atv ad, Close Up of which she was partnered to Luis Manzano, who is said to be her rumored boyfriend now. During that time, she was not that fully primed to do acting jobs not until she was given a chance to audition on a tv show in Singapore titled Rouge, MTV Asia’s first drama-comedy-action series. It was a series of auditio which she all passed with flying colors. After the final audition, she was then sent to the said country for her to meet and talk with the producers of the program for a boot camp together with other girls who passed the auditions. There, she was finally given the role of Pam, a bubbly and smart lady, said to be the walking encyclopedia of the group.

After several weeks of stay in Sinagapore for the shoot, and months passed after the show she was into finally had finished airing, she thought that, that would be the end. Fortunately, the producers and heads of MTV Philippines was then already watching her before Rouge eas aired so they decided to launch Mariel as one of the MTV VJ’s on December 2004.

Her continous success as a tv personality...

Upon returning to the Philippines, her career was then handled by Boy Abunda . Offers came her ays including ahosting job in Gma 7’s Extra Challenge together with Paolo Bediones. A Love-to-Love show also gave her a chance to do mushy romantic flicks that quite do well. However, her career made a huge boost when she was transferred to rival tv network ABS-CBN.

Actually, her stay there gave her big breaks especially in hosting when she was chosen as one of the hosts of Pinoy Big Brother with Toni Gonzaga . Blessing incessantly came her way as she was also placed as a co host of Willie Revillame in the noon time show Wowowee which was said to be her most succesful hosting job. TV shows and movies also made her innate talent of acting show off as for the movie Agent X44 with comedian Vhong Navarro.

Now, Mariel contined to be doing hosting jobs with her new show Entertainment Live with Bianca Gonzales and Toni Gonzaga.

Her life off-screen...

During her school years, she was really into participating class productions and school plays thats why when asked if she really dreamt of being a famous celebrity, her answer was a yes, even though at first she thought of a showbiz a baduy thing to do not unitl she’s part of it now.

Now that she’s a busy bee, most people think that she has no time for her family and friends and most of all, time to have a boyfriend. Well, what they thought was wrong because according to her, life should be balanced. She really makes time to be with her family and friends and also for herself. She is a type of person who want to pamper herself by going to spa for a massage and salon to do her nails. Of course, to a hard working like her, she really needs that kind of rest and recreation.

Talking about lovelife, Mariel has been very quiet and private when talking about this kind of topic. However, nothing stopped her from being linked to different celebrityt hunks like Zanjoe Marudo and the latest, Luis Manzano . Still, no confirmation from the young lady of the status of her relationship with either of the men.

What’s interesting IN Mariel’s life...

She is definitely the likes of Imelda Marcos when it comes to being a shoe addict. Asked if she has 1 million pesos what will she spend it to:

“I would spend it all on shoes! Is that mean? Should I be helping the world or something?”

“One thing people don’t know about me is… I sleep in a ratty shirt I’ve had for about eight years. The collar has even separated from the actual shirt, but I still love it!” - Mariel Rodriguez

Kate Beckinsale

Kate Beckinsale

WHY IS SHE FAMOUS

Most people with a pulse know who Kate Beckinsale is and those who do are probably struggling to control it on a regular basis, given that she is among the most beautiful women in the world. While she reigns supreme as one of the planet's most perfect creations, Kate Beckinsale is an actress by trade who is well-known for her roles in summer blockbusters like Pearl Harbor, action-horror flicks like Underworld and Van Helsing and Oscar fare like The Aviator. Lately she's chased crazed killers across Antarctica in the crime-minded Whiteout and played daughter to Robert De Niro in the sappy drama, Everybody's Fine.

Kate Beckinsale Quote

" "I'm so fascinated by breasts because my mother didn't have them either. If I had them, I'd run up and down flights of stairs!" -Kate Beckinsale"

91 SEX APPEAL

If there are any men who don't find Kate Beckinsale attractive, we have yet to meet them. The Sexiest Woman of 2009 according to Esquire and a regular on AskMen.com's Top 99 Women lists -- she was No. 3 in 2010 and made regular appearances in 2009 and 2008 -- this British bombshell is the dream date for many men and the envy of many other women. Her long, flowing dark hair is complemented by striking hazel eyes and full lips, and her figure is a mix of legs you could get lost in and very athletic curves. Clearly, Ms. Beckinsale realizes she is something special and isn't afraid to tease audiences with near-revealing shower scenes (Whiteout) and tight-fitting garments (the Underworld movies). So what does this near-perfect woman think she's missing? Well, her ideal body-switch partner is apparently Queen Latifah, because the crowned one has the bust that Kate Beckinsale believes she's missing. Somehow we've been too busy noticing how much is right about her than to spot any problem areas.

On the dating front, Kate Beckinsale was previously linked to actor Edmund Moriarty before famously coupling up with another actor, Michael Sheen, from 1995 until 2003. Their relationship ended when -- wouldn't you know it -- she left him for filmmaker Len Wiseman, who had been busy directing the couple on the set of Underworld. Now married, Kate Beckinsale and Len Wiseman are solid as a rock with a daughter and incredibly, Michael Sheen can talk to and work with both of them without sobbing.

73 SUCCESS

When Charlize Theron dropped out of a planned role in 2001's Pearl Harbor, Kate Beckinsale stepped in and her star was born. Having sharpened up her acting chops in British films like Shooting Fish and lesser-known American fare such as Brokedown Palace and The Last Days of Disco, it was her role as a nurse that made her a familiar face and had most of the male population wanting a taste of her bedside manner. Since that time, Kate Beckinsale's signature role has been the vampire Selene in a pair of Underworld movies with a rumored 3-D installment waiting in the wings.

Kate Beckinsale's incredible good looks have made her easy fodder for playing romantic love interests (Serendipity) and classic damsels (Van Helsing), but her athleticism and tough demeanor have made her an action hero of late -- both in the Underworld films and recent efforts like Whiteout. An actress who tries to seek out roles that emphasize the human qualities of women rather than the sexual ones, Kate Beckinsale has had a chance to stretch her acting talents in more dramatic directions for challenging fare like The Aviator and the recent family drama, Everybody's Fine.

KATE BECKINSALE BIOGRAPHY

Kate Beckinsale had acting in the blood, given that she was the offspring of the late British comedian Richard Beckinsale and his actress wife Judy Loe. As a teenager, she was enrolled at London's all-female Godolphin and Latymer School and won a pair of writing contests for her astute skills in poetry and short story writing. Nevertheless, she had a rebellious streak that came out in funny ways -- like a first-place finish at the Youth's Burp for Fame contest -- and in more serious ways like regular smoking and a bout with anorexia.

Once she gained control of her demons, Kate Beckinsale decided to move forward with acting while in the midst of her Russian and French literature studies at Oxford University. Small roles in a string of television movies, starting with One Against the Wind in 1991, eventually led to her feature film debut as Hero in Kenneth Branagh's 1993 Shakespearean effort, Much Ado About Nothing. Kate Beckinsale would follow it up with a role opposite a young Christian Bale in Prince of Jutland a year later and the lead role of Emma Woodhouse in the Emmy-winning Emma in 1996. Following a turn as the socialite partner in crime to Chloe Sevigny in 1998's The Last Days of Disco, Kate Beckinsale landed a lead role opposite Claire Danes in the intense Thailand tourist drama, Brokedown Palace. The film was a box-office disappointment, but it marked a smooth transition for Kate Beckinsale from small-scale independent films and British dramas into full-blown Hollywood fare.

Kate Beckinsale In Pearl Harbor And Underworld
In 2001, Kate Beckinsale broke into the ranks of blockbusters with the lead female role of Evelyn Johnson in Michael Bay's action tearjerker (who knew there was such a thing?), Pearl Harbor. As a heroic nurse, she got to romance both Josh Hartnett and Ben Affleck while recreating one of the darkest moments of American history. Though Kate Beckinsale and her two male costars had a shared Razzie Award nomination for Worst On-Screen Couple, the film was one of the year's biggest hits and the actress did earn an MTV Movie Awards nomination for Best Female Performance.

After reteaming with Christian Bale to play his beautiful but cold companion in the L.A. drama, Laurel Canyon, Kate Beckinsale embodied the most memorable role of her young career in Underworld -- playing Selene, a vampire with a penchant for tight leather outfits and a forbidden attraction to a werewolf. The film was a cult favorite and led its leading lady straight into the arms of Hugh Jackman for another mix of action and chills in 2004's summer extravaganza, Van Helsing. Just when audiences and critics had her pegged as a purely mainstream actress, Kate Beckinsale surprised many with her sharp turn as screen legend Ava Gardner in Martin Scorsese's look at Howard Hughes (via Leonardo DiCaprio) in the Oscar contender, The Aviator.
Kate Beckinsale In Whiteout And Everybody's Fine
2006 marked Kate Beckinsale's next adventure as Selene for the inevitable sequel, Underworld: Evolution, which was a hot ticket at the box office and a solid career move. Next up was Click, a comedy that had the beauty playing the confused wife of Adam Sandler as he uses a remote control to skip through the key events of his adult life. Kate Beckinsale ventured back to the horror realm as a wife trapped in a seedy hotel room with her equally afraid husband, Luke Wilson, in 2007's Vacancy.

Having grown accustomed to action-heavy (and not always acting-heavy) films in recent years, Kate Beckinsale took a step toward developing her talents with a pair of smaller-scale efforts in 2008. The first was Winged Creatures featuring Sam Rockwell and the second was Nothing But the Truth, which cast Kate Beckinsale as a journalist threatened with jail time after leaking the identity of a CIA agent. The story was inspired by the real-life Valerie Plame scandal. In 2009, Kate Beckinsale returned to the studio system to play a U.S. Marshal chasing a killer in Antarctica in Whiteout and the daughter of recent widower Robert De Niro in Everybody's Fine. After being named the Sexiest Woman Alive by Esquire that same year, Kate Beckinsale was rumored to be appearing in 2011's Underworld 3-D, which is set to be directed by her husband, Len Wiseman.

Jennifer Connelly

Jennifer Connelly

WHY IS SHE FAMOUS

Jennifer Connelly appeared on Fox's The Street for a season, and has appeared in over 20 movies, most notably Labyrinth, Requiem for a Dream, and A Beautiful Mind.

Jennifer Connelly Quote
" I try to stay focused on my life and do try not to be brought into the Hollywood fantasy."

81 SEX APPEAL

At 5'8", she strikes quite a pose. Her gorgeous figure hasn't hurt her popularity with the pimple crowd either. In fact, in the first days of the World Wide Web, a long, long time ago in 1994, Jennifer was, along with Pamela Anderson, the most searched woman on the Net.

Before A Beautiful Mind, Jennifer's sex appeal wasn't evident to everyone, as she veered toward roles that emphasized her acting abilities rather than the usual sexpot roles.

55 SUCCESS

Her first movie role was with Robert De Niro in Once Upon a Time in America. It was a great start, but unfortunately with the exception of The Rocketeer, most of her early movies didn't receive too much press. Considering she has done more than 20 movies, her starmaking role was yet to come.

JENNIFER CONNELLY BIOGRAPHY

Jennifer Connelly was born December 12, 1970, in Catskill Mountains, New York, to parents Gerard, a clothing manufacturer, and Eileen, an antique dealer.

Although she claims she was tiny and mousy as a child, she was certainly pretty enough to appear in magazines such as Seventeen at the age of 10, after a friend of her father's recommended that she model.

Signed with Ford models, Jennifer did her share of print and television before appearing in front of cameras as an actress. While a student at St. Ann's School, she landed a role as a young Elisabeth McGovern for a flashback sequence in the mobster film, Once Upon a Time in America, starring Robert De Niro.

a-maze-ing breakthrough

With only an appearance on the television show, Tales of the Unexpected on her acting resume, she was soon on her way, but her next outings, Creepers (aka Phenomena and Seven Minutes in Heaven) weren't the answers to her breaking through.

What did help her find her way out of obscurity was the lead role opposite David Bowie in Jim Henson and George Lucas' 1986 film, Labyrinth. Her role placed her into the spotlight, so much so that she is even recognized by children today.

By the time she had graduated high school, Jennifer had appeared in a video for Roy Orbison's "I Drove All Night" with Jason Priestly; appeared in television commercials in Japan; and even released a single in Japan entitled, "Monologue of Love," in which she sings in Japanese (her agent claimed that she was semi-fluent in the language).

But Jennifer's career choice left her in a maze of disappointment after disappointment, with roles in 1990's The Hot Spot and Career Opportunities. The latter did not live up to its name, as it was not much more than another film credit.

skyrocketing with the rocketeer

Balancing work and school, Jennifer attended Yale and then transferred to Stanford, but decided to make acting her number one priority when she was cast in the lead of Disney's The Rocketeer. The movie not only skyrocketed Jennifer to new heights, but it also led to a long-term romance with her co-star, Billy Campbell.

In 1995, Jennifer was cast as a lesbian in Higher Learning, co-starring Tyra Banks, and the following year she appeared in Mulholland Falls and starred in Far Harbor.

The green-eyed beauty then had a streak, with 1997's Inventing the Abbotts, as Liv Tyler's sister, and less commercial films like Dark City, Waking the Dead, the critically-acclaimed Requiem for a Dream, in a convincing turn as a heroine addict, and Pollock.

Jennifer tried her hand at television, with a starring role in the poorly rated The $treet, and although it was canceled, Jennifer became a star with her supporting role in A Beautiful Mind, opposite Russell Crowe. She is also busy raising her son, Kai (the fruit of her relationship with photographer Dave Dougan), as a single mother.

Her acting talents were finally recognized as she was nominated for a Best Supporting Female Independent Spirit Award for her role in Requiem for a Dream. Jennifer finally received her much-deserved recognition with Best Supporting Actress trophies at the 2002 Golden Globe and Oscar award shows.

Jennifer will next appear in the Ang Lee directed film adaptation, The Hulk.

Judgment Day forecaster points to new doomsday date

Camping, California evangelical broadcaster who predicts that Judgment Day will come on May 21, 2011, is seen in this still image in Oakland
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The evangelical Christian broadcaster whose much-ballyhooed Judgment Day prophecy went conspicuously unfulfilled on Saturday has a simple explanation for what went wrong -- he miscalculated.
Instead of the world physically coming to an end on May 21 with a great, cataclysmic earthquake, as he had predicted, Harold Camping, 89, said he now believes his forecast is playing out "spiritually," with the actual apocalypse set to occur five months later, on October 21.

Camping, who launched a doomsday countdown in which some followers spent their life's savings in anticipation of being swept into heaven, issued his correction during an appearance on his "Open Forum" radio show from Oakland, California.

The headquarters of Camping's Family Radio network of 66 U.S. stations had been shuttered over the weekend with a sign on the door that read, "This Office is Closed. Sorry we missed you!"
During a sometimes rambling, 90-minute discourse that included a question-and-answer session with reporters, Camping said he felt bad that Saturday had come and gone without the Rapture he had felt so certain would take place.
Reflecting on scripture afterward, Camping said it "dawned" on him that a "merciful and compassionate God" would spare humanity from "hell on Earth for five months" by compressing the physical apocalypse into a shorter time frame.
But he insisted that October 21 has always been the end-point of his own End Times chronology, or at least, his latest chronology.
The tall, gaunt former civil engineer with a deep voice and prominent ears has been wrong before. More than two decades ago, he publicly acknowledged a failed 1994 prophecy of Christ's return to Earth.
To publicize his latest pronouncement, the Family Radio network posted over 2,000 billboards around the country declaring that Judgment Day was at hand, and believers carried the message on placards in shopping malls and street corners.
Asked what advice he would give to followers who gave up much or all of their worldly possessions in the belief that his Judgment Day forecast would come true, Camping drew a comparison to the nation's recent economic slump.
"We just had a great recession. There's lots of people who lost their jobs, lots of people who lost their houses ... and somehow they all survived," he said.
"People cope, he added. "We're not in the business of giving any financial advice. We're in the business of telling people maybe there is someone you can talk to, and that's God."

Marquez-Pacquiao III a done deal

AP Photo/Jae C. Hong

Manila (Philippine Daily Inquirer/ANN) - Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao's confirmation, boxing pundits have long agreed, is as binding as a signed fight contract.

"Tuloy na po 'yun, abangan n'yo (It's on, wait for it)," Pacquiao said during an interview with ABS-CBN's Dyan Castillejo. The Filipino ring superstar was, of course, referring to his third clash with Mexican great Juan Manuel Marquez on November 12 in Las Vegas.

Marquez, the WBA and WBO lightweight champion, signed the contract--which assures him a personal-high $5 million purse plus a share in pay-per-view revenues--last May 19 at Beverly Hills Hotel in Los Angeles.
Pacquiao's adviser Mike Koncz is to bring the contract to Manila for the pound-for-pound king's signature. Koncz has not arrived from the United States, though.
Under the fight's financial terms, Pacquiao will get $20 million--virtually the same amount he earned in his lopsided unanimous decision victory over Shane Mosley on May 7--plus a share in PPV revenues.
In their first tussle in 2004, Pacquiao settled for a draw despite knocking Marquez down three times in the first round. They met again in 2008 at 130 pounds with Pacquiao squeezing out a split decision on the strength of a third-round knockdown.
The trilogy is set at a catch weight of 144 lb with Pacquiao's WBO welterweight title also at stake. Marquez fought and lost to Floyd Mayweather Jr. in the same catch weight in 2009.
If Marquez beats Pacquiao, a fourth fight will be held with the Mexican, who stands to receive $10 million.
